Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

AKRF maintains an established and empowered Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee that reports to the Board of Directors and is charged with recommending near- and long-term strategies concerning justice and equality both within the organization and in our service to society.

AKRF was honored by the American Council of Engineering Companies’ New York Chapter as a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Awards winner in 2023 and by Crain’s New York Business as a Diversity and Inclusion Awards finalist in 2022.

Karen Franz, President and CEO of AKRF, currently serves as Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee Chair for ACEC New York and was honored among the 2022 Crain’s New York Notable LGBTQ Leaders and 2020 City and State Pride Power 100.

Our Staff Development Program is designed to help employees achieve their professional goals through a carefully curated educational and training curriculum focused on technical, management, and communication skills.

We also offer an annual Mentoring Program to guide and support our employees’ professional and career development objectives, while our Innovation Committee keeps employees at the cutting edge of software applications and AI ethics and functionality.

The Sustainability Imperative

Our Sustainability Working Group is a collaborative engagement of nearly 40 multidisciplinary employees from around the firm. We commit to measuring, tracking, and reporting on our environmental impact in the pursuit of a more sustainable, resilient, and equitable future. AKRF also provides sustainability consulting to our clients.
Our working group is addressing the firm’s carbon footprint, operations, purchasing, transportation, and reporting.
