The New York City Council approved the Willets Point Phase 2 mixed-use development in Queens in 2024.

AKRF has a long history of involvement in redeveloping and transforming the 61-acre Willets Point peninsula in Queens, including preparation of the Environmental Impact Statement in 2008, the Supplemental EIS in 2013, and various technical memoranda as the development plan was refined by the Queens Development Group. We also worked with the New York City Economic Development Corporation to support the demolition of nearly 70 structures for the first phase of development.

We recently led CEQR environmental review for Phase 2 of a three-phased development plan for the Willets Point Special District to facilitate the development of approximately 17 acres with 1.8 million gross square feet of development, including 1,400 affordable residential units, a 250-room hotel, a 25,000-seat professional soccer stadium for New York City Football Club, and approximately 1.5 acres of public open space.

The project is being designed by S9 Architecture and the soccer stadium is being designed by HOK.

“This is one of the most ambitious projects the city has undertaken in decades, and we are proud to finally make good on creating an entirely new neighborhood at Willets Point.”
