AKRF supports the Trust for Public Land in redeveloping and renovating public recreational spaces throughout Philadelphia.

Our work has included civil engineering, landscape architecture, construction administration, and public outreach support. One example project is the renovated Lanier Park, which reopened in 2018 in the Grays Ferry neighborhood of South Philadelphia with a new playground, fitness path, dog parks, picnic areas, play equipment, and interactive water features.

AKRF was lead designer for the four-acre playground, working closely with TPL to reintroduce to the community a park that had been locked up and off-limits to neighbors for over a decade. The park was also renovated below the surface, where a new water-filtration system manages up to 106 million gallons of stormwater per year—the largest stormwater basin in the city according to the Philadelphia Water Department.
