A new adaptive traffic control system was turned on in 2021 for a diverging diamond interchange in New York.

The New York State Department of Transportation is in the process of upgrading the limited access portion of New York State Route 17 between Chautauqua and Orange Counties to interstate standards.

As part of this upgrade, the Exit 131 interchange of Route 17 at Route 32 has undergone a $150 million transformation: widening Route 17, reconstructing Route 32 and other local roadways, and converting the interchange to a Diverging Diamond Interchange.

AKRF provided simulation modeling, signal design, controller programming, and a year-long post-implementation study in conjunction with the distributor for a new Adaptive Traffic Control System serving a half-mile, seven-intersection segment of the corridor.
