The North River Wastewater Resource Recovery Facility opened in 1986 and has a design capacity of 170 million gallons per day.

For the proposed replacement of the facility’s ten tri-fuel pump and blower engines with five new 3.37-megawatt spark-ignited reciprocating engine generators, AKRF prepared a permitting and emissions feasibility analysis, the CEQR Environmental Assessment Statement, the major source Title V air permit application, and local New York City air permits as part of the Jacobs team.

The resulting cogeneration system maximizes the use of digester gas; utilizes natural gas instead of fuel oil, which was previously used; results in lower emissions; meets all regulatory requirements; and has seen a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions while maximizing the potential greenhouse gas benefit.
