Jacob K. Javits Convention Center Expansion
AKRF has a long history of planning and environmental services for expansion of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan.
The expansion was previously analyzed by AKRF as part of the 2004 Hudson Yards Generic Environmental Impact Statement, an effort that built on our experience as primary author of the original Environmental Impact Statement for the construction of the Javits Center—the first serious document of its type under the State Environmental Quality Review Act.

As planning and design for the facility have been refined since approval of its original concept plan, AKRF has led the preparation of Technical Memoranda in 2006 and 2016 to ensure that proposed changes were considered in the context of the environmental findings.
The $1.5 billion, 1.2 million-square-foot expansion was completed in 2021 through design-build delivery. The expanded Javits Center features 50 percent more front-of-house and back-of-house areas, including new exhibit and meeting room spaces, a glass-enclosed rooftop pavilion, and a truck marshaling facility.
Additionally, AKRF provided civil engineering services for the expansion and construction inspection for the 48-inch combined sewer located within the building’s footprint—performed by Philip Habib & Associates prior to acquisition.
