Hudson Yards

Opened in 2019, Hudson Yards is bringing 18 million square feet of development and 14 acres of open space to Manhattan.
AKRF played a lead role in preparing the SEQRA/CEQR Generic Environmental Impact Statement for Hudson Yards and we prepared the amended drainage plan for the Hudson Yards District. Our work included the air quality analysis and permitting for a combined heat and power plant to be located on the Eastern Rail Yard retail podium.
Additionally, the Federal Railroad Administration certified the NEPA Draft Environmental Impact Statement and Draft Section 4(f) Evaluation prepared by AKRF for the Western Rail Yard Infrastructure Project in 2021.
AKRF’s PHA Division provided civil and traffic engineering for Hudson Yards. Our work included parking and loading planning, grading plans, builders pavement plans, bollard plans, plaza design, and site connection proposals for the Eastern Rail Yard. We also provided transportation and infrastructure planning services for the overall site master plan.
The Shed opens in 2019
AKRF prepared the CEQR Environmental Assessment Statement for The Shed, a $400 million, 20,000-square-foot arts and performance space covered by a movable 4,000-ton exposed structural steel shell on bogie-wheel assemblies carried along rails. The Shed was named 2019 ENR Project of the Year.
