A series of streetscape and roadway improvements opened along Hudson Street in Manhattan in 2022.

AKRF designed enhanced pedestrian space and new amenities along Hudson Street to improve pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular safety as part of the $27 million “Hudson Square is Now” streetscape improvement plan, a major public-private, design-build investment between Canal Street and West Houston Street.

The project included over 8,000 square feet of planting areas using continuous tree pits and permeable pavers to maximize stormwater capture and promote healthier trees; new benches with over 150 seats; approximately 2,200 square feet of allowable space for future sidewalk cafes; sidewalk realignments and new pedestrian ramps; a dedicated and parking-protected bike lane; and over 40 additional bicycle racks.
