Hanscom AFB Middle School
Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts opened its new middle school in 2016.
The new two-story, 85,000-square-foot school designed by EwingCole includes flexible learning space, common areas, and a unique cafeteria/library meeting multimedia education needs through an internet café environment.
As acoustical consultant, AKRF assessed outdoor noise levels near the proposed site resulting from private aircraft at the airfield. The noise data was used to define building core/shell acoustical performance criteria.
Planning and programming for the 350-student school was developed in collaboration with U.S. Department of Defense Educational Activity and other federal and local agencies.
