Gowanus Neighborhood Rezoning
The rezoning of an approximately 82-block area surrounding the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn was approved in 2021.
The rezoning is intended to facilitate development patterns that meet the long-term vision of the neighborhood as a sustainable, mixed-use neighborhood anchored by a vibrant and resilient waterfront.
AKRF led environmental planning, analysis, and documentation pursuant to CEQR requirements, including key analyses of the potential impacts to transportation, coastal zone management, historic and archaeological resources, air quality, noise, hazardous materials, community facilities and schools, and infrastructure.
The proposed actions were comprised of zoning map and text amendments and urban renewal plan amendments.
