Caton Flats is a new 255-unit affordable housing and commercial/retail mixed-use development in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn.

AKRF prepared the CEQR Environmental Assessment Statement for the 14-story development by BRP, as the project required zoning changes by the City Planning Commission and disposition approval of a city-owned site by the New York City Economic Development Corporation. We also provided civil and geotechnical engineering, site assessment and remediation services, and acoustical consulting to meet noise E-Designation requirements. The building was designed by Magnusson Architecture and Planning and Freeform + Deform.

AKRF prepared a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment, conducted the subsurface remedial investigation, and prepared and implemented a Remedial Action Work Plan approved by the New York City Mayor’s Office of Environmental Remediation. We also enrolled the site in the Voluntary Cleanup Program, which provides grants and liability protections as part of the development project.

During construction, AKRF conducted air monitoring, environmental oversight and testing, and reporting as required by the approved Remedial Action Work Plan in order to obtain occupancy permits from the Department of Buildings.
