A 300-megawatt floating battery energy storage project is proposed for three side-by-side barges at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

The Brooklyn Navy Yard is a 300-acre waterfront industrial park serving over 500 businesses – and a place that has become an informal testing ground for green technology companies. AKRF is currently providing environmental consulting in support of the floating BESS.

Our work includes the preparation of a NEPA environmental information report for submittal to the U.S. Department of Energy; preparation of the USACE/NYSDEC Joint Application required for siting the energy storage barge within the Wallabout Channel; and support to USDOE in preparation of the project’s formal NEPA Environmental Assessment and required agency consultations.

We have also developed a sediment sampling program and completed a preliminary noise impact study.
