AKRF is contributing to an Urban Tree Canopy Assessment and Biodiversity Audit for Battery Park City.

The Battery Park City Authority develops and sustains a balanced community of commercial, residential, retail, and park space within its designated 92-acre site on the lower west side of Manhattan. As part of a consultant team with SCAPE and Buro Happold, AKRF is contributing to this assessment and audit in support of the Authority’s ten-year Sustainability Plan.

We first researched and interviewed developers of data collection software platforms and recommended TreePlotter tree inventory and asset management software for the project encompassing over 1,500 trees throughout the neighborhood.

AKRF is now working with the team to analyze the urban tree canopy and biodiversity data and to understand the urban heat island effect and carbon sequestration potential of existing trees in Battery Park City.
