4th Avenue Safety Improvements
The four-mile 4th Avenue corridor in Park Slope and Sunset Park is a Vision Zero Priority Corridor.
AKRF is responsible for preliminary and final design of raised planted medians within the corridor — which exhibits a high rate of severe pedestrian crashes and injuries — on behalf of the New York City Department of Transportation. Our work includes coordination with New York City Transit’s structural rehabilitation of the underlying subway tunnels to ensure the vents match the elevations of the raised medians, an important flood mitigation consideration.
AKRF has also prepared the Design Approval Document and Plans, Specifications and Estimate for submission to the New York State Department of Transportation as required by the project’s federal funding.
