111 West 57th Street
The world’s skinniest skyscraper, 111 West 57th Street rises high above Central Park in Midtown Manhattan with 46 full-floor and duplex residences.
AKRF provided civil and environmental engineering for the 1,428-foot-tall tower developed by JDS Development Group and designed by SHoP Architects. Because the building incorporates the historic Steinway Building into its base, we performed vibration monitoring to protect the landmark building from vibrations during surrounding demolition and construction.

Engineering expertise for local and state approvals
We oversaw the removal of two 8,000-gallon No. 6 fuel oil storage tanks within a vault located in the sub-cellar of the historic Steinway Hall and investigated and remediated a petroleum spill originating from the former buried fuel oil return line. The spill was closed with New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in 2016.
As civil engineer, AKRF prepared the Builders Pavement Plan, composite site and utility plan, and wastewater quality control application, among other project needs. We also provided permitting support with New York City and New York State agencies.
