New York City released its Sunset Park Vision Plan in 2009 to position this multicultural neighborhood as a future industrial hub.

Implementation of the plan – for which AKRF is lead infrastructure engineer and construction began in 2022 – is intended to maximize the efficient movement of goods, protect and grow industrial employment, promote green practices, and balance neighborhood needs in Southwest Brooklyn.

The project is reconfiguring roadway intersections and installing sidewalks to improve pedestrian and vehicular safety; upgrading existing sewer and watermain utilities; addressing existing drainage issues; designing wayfinding and signage improvements; upgrading traffic signals and street lighting; and creating a new plaza and pedestrian corridor for better access to the East River waterfront and Bush Terminal Park.
