New York City Cloudburst Management Design
Managing cloudburst events is essential to minimizing the flooding those sudden, heavy downpours cause.
AKRF is a lead engineering consultant to the New York City Department of Environmental Protection for stormwater management solutions to alleviate neighborhood flooding caused by cloudbursts and other high-intensity storms that can damage property, pollute waterways, and disrupt critical infrastructure.
These design solutions will improve the resiliency of flood-prone neighborhoods by combining green infrastructure and new storm sewers with roadway improvements and landscaping to absorb (e.g., porous pavement, rain gardens), store (e.g., stormwater tanks), and transfer (e.g., catch basins, drainage pipes) rainwater, while also providing amenities such as park features to their communities.
